Skin Care and Cancer Checks

About Skin Care and Cancer Checks:

Early Detection

skin-checksEarly detection generally gives the best chance of successfully treating skin cancer. Australian survival rates from melanoma are higher than in other countries because of awareness of the signs of skin cancer and early detection procedures.

The sooner a skin cancer is identified and treated, the better your chance of avoiding surgery or, in the case of a serious melanoma or other skin cancer, potential disfigurement or even death.

We can help you understand your personal risk factors such as:

  • Sun exposure
  • Family history
  • Adverse lifestyle factors

We use very high quality powerful dermoscopes to check your skin for suspicious spots – sun damaged skin, melanoma, benign skin lesions etc. and we advise on how to prevent skin cancers by life style changes.

We can treat some early skin cancers and pre-cancer skin lesions at the surgery, and we ensure thorough and appropriate follow-up care.

Skin lesions which cannot be managed in general practice will be referred to a dermatologist or skin cancer clinic for further management.
